Academy 2026 lies behind us, the next one is approaching!

Reflecting on a fantastic summer spent with such wonderful, talented young singers, we are already looking forward to the 6th Barock Vokal Academy in the summer of 2027!

Lea Becker, Malena Hoffmann, Henrike Legner, Alissa Magee, Nima Pournaghshband, Jiyoon Shin, and Wenbo Shuai: It was a great pleasure to work with you so intensively! We wish you every success in your future endeavors!

A heartfelt thank you to all our instructors, colleagues, and musicians—György Vashegy, Katalin Szutrély, Deborah York, Alessandro De Marchi, Paul Goodwin, Daniele Boccaccio, Markus Stein, Karl Böhmer and Barbara Leiterer — who, as always, contributed their expertise with such great dedication!

And thank you, too, to the team behind it all!

Our summer 2027
has the motto Vivaldi -1 as 2028 will mark Vivaldi’s 450th birthday – and we make a head start on the celebrations!

Federico Maria Sardelli, the Italian Vivaldi expert and curator of the Antonio Vivaldi catalogue of works (the Ryom catalogue), will work with participants on cantatas by the Red Priest and his contemporaries. Paul Goodwin will present a programme juxtaposing sacred music by Handel and Vivaldi. An finally, Italian conductor Alessandro de Marchi—also renowned Vivaldi scholar and opera specialist—will focus on Vivaldi’s opera L’Olimpiade.

Barock Vokal Akademie offers again a three-weeks programme for young singers who wish to deepen their knowledge of historic performance practice. Internationally renowned artists and specialists on the field of baroque music will join the faculty and support the participants in their artistic development. It’s going to be held form July 25th until August 175h, 2027.

Lessons in baroque singing, vocal embellishment and recitative, classes in performance (e.g. baroque dance and gesture), language coaching, vocal chamber music and concerts are part of the curriculum. Auditions and roundtable discussions with conductors, concert agencies and festival managers are planned in order to help the young artists establish contacts into the professional world.

The faculty will comprise specialists from the Hochschule für Musik Mainz as well as international experts, teaching individual classes during the summer academy. And being located on the campus site of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, the vicinity to faculties like the department of musicology provide further expertise.

Barock Vokal Akademie wishes to help young singers in developing their artistic personality and with their career start by offering as well the possibility to acquire special skills as introducing them to a professional network.
